Lifestyle In-home Newborn session prep guide

Welcome!

As a lifestyle newborn and family photographer,

my job is to capture the beautiful, intimate

moments between you and your family.

Instead of asking you to pose or smile

awkwardly, I want to encourage an environment

where you feel comfortable enough to just be

yourselves.

Forget about my camera and enjoy beautiful

moments with your family, meanwhile, I’ll create

images that show just how wonderful your life is!

I can't wait to meet you!

Your Session

Newborn sessions are SO RELAXED!

We’re not going to try to get your baby

into any crazy poses, and if baby is wide

awake for the whole session, it’s totally

fine. Some parents get anxious when

baby doesn’t “cooperate” but you really

don’t need to worry. Babies aren’t

meant to be cooperative, they are the

boss by nature, so we’re just gonna go

with their flow.

Don’t expect me to ask you to sit and

look at the camera - that’s not what I do.

You’re going to sit and look at your baby,

your family. You are going to get images

that are full of love. Your child is going to

look at these one day and SEE how

loved they were from day one.

One year from now, your baby is gonna

be a walking, talking, chubby cheeked

toddler. Your baby is not going to be a

newborn for long and you are gonna be

way too tired to even notice this

beautiful time passing you by.

This type of photography will make sure

you always have a beautiful reminder of

this amazing, albeit exhausting, time in

your life.

I cant wait to capture all the things for your families new lfie.

I absolutely LOVE in-home sessions SO MUCH! I love them because they get to showcase your brand new family member in the comfort of their own home with their parents, siblings, and pets! Babes change SO MUCH in those first few weeks, so I love being able to capture that brand new goodness for parents in the comfort and familiarity of their own home.

The best time for in-home sessions are during daylight hours, usually in the morning (starting your session between 9am - 11pm usually gives the best light and happiest babe!). I realize sometimes with big siblings/family members this time frame is not always possible, but I will do my best to work with whatever time works for your family and babe.

I LOVE natural light and I love capturing your new baby and family in the natural light in your house!! We will be embracing your home’s natural light (open up those window blinds!), turning off the overhead lights and taking advantage of the natural brightness as much as possible (another reason why I like doing these sessions during the bright part of the day). I’ll pop you all

next to windows as much as possible for those pics — we will take full advantage of the light coming into your house, as you can see in the picture to the right. Even on the cloudiest (and even rainiest too!) days, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how much the outside light comes in to give you the best possible pictures!

If the natural light is not sufficient enough (trust me I get it, some houses are dark) I will use my flash at a very low power to bounce off of the ceiling to add just enough light to illuminate you all in your space.

Try and feed babe shortly before your session time. This ensures baby has a full belly and will hopefully be happy and cooperative for pics! If you would like any feeding/nursing pictures, we absolutely can do this at the beginning of the session…so hold off feeding babe until I get there and we’ll get some feeding/nursing pics done first!

Turn up that heat! I’ve found that baby is so much happier in a warm environment. This allows for babe to be comfortable for any naked/diaper pictures and isn’t so upset to have their clothes changed if the house is extra warm.

What to wear? This is totally up to you! I tell moms to pick their outfit first and build others outfits around that. I do encourage moms to wear something comfortable and flowy so as not constricting on their fresh postpartum body. Having a light sweater or cardigan to go over your outfit works well too for pictures. The colors i would try and stick with is something that is very natural colors - Tans, light pinks, blues, whites, Mustard- Greens are even ok to work in the mix. Please stay away from Bright & bolder colors (Reds, Yellows, Oranges, Neon colors)

I'm worried my children won't behave

Kids, by nature, are messy and chaotic and real. That is exactly what

I want to capture. Don’t Stress about kids not listening! Siblings are 60% on there best behavor and 40% wanna show off there crazy self's! I give the older kids a break, a Big plus is to always try and get everyone fed before you dress and get them ready, But make sure to set aside snacks for them(clean snacks as always best)!

How can i get my house ready?

Clean and put any clutter away, i can always put things i see away when i arrive. If we are using your master bedroom, I Always say clean off your nightstands of any Cords, cups/Glasses. You can leave 1-2 books, lamps, flowers/Plants. putting away the side bed bassinet either into a different room or closet is nice so we have much room to work.

Can we include our dogs/Cats/Pets?

YESS! I love including pets to your session, I try and do it at the end just because they don't last long ( there worse then kids! HA)
